Lacking Energy, Motivation, Confidence?

Are you lacking in Energy, Motivation, or Confidence?

Or perhaps all three?!

Picture this, you've had a hard week at the office, and on the weekend you partner reminds you that the garage needs sorting, the spare room needs painting, visit the mother in law, or some other chore that you really don't want to do. You say "Honey, I've had a tough week, I'm tired, the boss is on my back, I'm really stressed out, I'm really not sure how to do that, I just want to chill out in front of the TV".
All of a sudden, your friend calls up and says he has a tee-off in one hour at the golf course, and they are missing one player, they'll be picking you up in 15 minutes.
And Bam! Just like that there is energy, motivation and a confident spring in your step, and you are waiting eagerly on the doorstep for your buddies to pick you up.

What happened? What made the difference?

If your goal, lets take painting the spare room as an example, is not aligned with your highest values, you procrastinate, hesitate and frustrate yourself (and your partner, boss, etc.).

If your goal is aligned with your highest values, then you get disciplined, focused and reliable.

You will always have time, energy, money, to achieve things that are aligned to your highest values.

You are inspired to do them. You don't need anyone to motivate you.

"But" I can hear you say, I really 'should', 'ought to', 'got to', paint the spare room. How do I get myself to be inspired to achieve this goal?

The answer is to simply link it to your highest values.

Painting the spare room may not be high on your values, but impressing the relatives that are visiting from overseas might be. Or getting the room ready for you new baby.

Once you have a good enough, reason or reasons WHY painting the room will align with your highest values, you will find the time, energy and a way to do it.

The goal then becomes something that's ON the way, rather than an obstacle that's IN the way.

To your success,
Trevor Long

Procrastination - What is it?

Procrastination

We all do it, well at least 95% of us on a regular basis. I even procrastinated about doing this post. There were some very important weeds that needed weeding! My worst case in recent times was one day when I was set to finish and submit a final paper. Whilst having my morning shower and getting ready for the productive day ahead, I decided that I just had to steam clean the shower! I knew I had a steam cleaner somewhere in the garage, bought in a moment of considered consumerism from an infomercial many years before. You can guess what happened. I got a very clean shower, and wasted at least half the day on a non urgent, non important task.

Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something, often indefinitely.

It takes many forms, ignoring tasks, hoping they will go away, doing something else not important, telling yourself poor performance is ok, believing that minor repeated delays will not hurt you, becoming paralysed by having too many choices, etc. etc.

It can rob you of your future dreams.

If you’re completely happy with your life, congratulations. Keep doing what you’re doing. If, however, you look back on your hopes and dreams of 5 years ago and find that you haven’t achieved them, perhaps it’s time to try something different.

We know that the shortest distance between where you are now and your goals is a straight line. e.g. getting fit and healthy does not include detours to McDonalds and the pub. So why don't we just focus on what we should be doing?

The following few blogs are going to explain some of the reasons why, and what you can do about it.

When will I post them??? Eventually!

Ooooo, look - a cute picture of a cat...

In with a Bang, or Fizzle Out?

Happy Near Year!

Tonight is when people make their resolutions, ready to start 2015 off with a BANG!
Within a week, most have Fizzled Out? :(
Why is that?

Many reasons, some of the main ones are:

First, they didn't write it down and they weren't specific about what they really want.

Second, they don't know why they want to achieve their goals.

Third, they didn't have a plan of action about how they are going to achieve their goal.

Fourth, they didn't implement new habits that would help them achieve their goal, step by step, inch by inch.

So this year, do me a favour, ok?

1. Write down what you WANT, specifically. Not "I want to lose weight" or " I want to make more money". Write down e.g. "I now weigh 80Kg, with 18% body fat" or "I now have $20,000 in my investment account".

2. List reasons WHY, at least 20 reason, preferably 100 reasons, e.g. I now weigh 80kg. SO THAT... I can get healthy, so I can be around to dance at my grand-kids weddings, so that I look sexy, so that I can remain independent in my retirement, etc. etc. etc.

3. Make a PLAN, e.g. throw out all the junk food in the house (and don't buy any more), design a weekly meal plan, join a gym, etc. etc.

4. Identify 5 things that you can do every day, that will inch you towards your goals, e.g. drink water, only one milky coffee per day, take the stairs when available, take lunches to work, exercise or movement daily.

Now who do you  think has more chance of achieving their goals? The person making a drunken decision on New Years Eve, or the person who has a specific written goal, reasons why they will achieve that goal, a plan of action towards achieving that goal, and a new habits that will propel them to success?

The answer is obvious isn't it? The 'secret' of success is really not so secret. It takes a dream, a plan, actions, and commitment to completion.

YOU CAN DO THIS.

Your coaches here at Get Centred are here to guide you through the process, and to keep you accountable and on track.

Happy New Year from all of us at Get Centred!
To your success,

The SECRET to achieving BIG things...

Human beings are capable of incredible things when the "why" becomes big enough.

But what allows you to bring a massive "WHY" to every area of your life?
Your purpose...

The funny thing about human beings is we are meaning making creatures and therefore we need to have meaning to remain motivated and enthusiastic about everything we are creating.Don Juan, the famous Mexican Shaman once said:

" For me there is only the travelling on a path with heart. The only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, looking... looking breathlessly. "

So ask yourself throughout today:
"Does this next activity support my purpose in any way?"

The secret to achieving BIG things is a BIG purpose

Here are 3 beliefs to keep in mind when finding your BIG purpose:

1. You live in a world where no one ever judges you
2. You do not owe anything to anyone in any way, shape or form
3. You know with absolute certainty that you cannot fail

When you start living a life of purpose, everyday things you see, touch and do come alive with meaning and fulfillment. This experience you get is simply incomparable.

Once you're clear on your purpose:

  • You wake up inspired and energized
  • Decisions become clearer and quicker
  • You feel more fulfilled almost instantly
2015 will become a year of new opportunities for you. To ensure you're setup correctly for the new year, we highly recommend you experience a goal setting, strategising and blockage busting session with one of our coaches.

Here's to a 2015 of fulfilment,
Trevor Long
