April Fools Planning

I'm not talking about planning your next April Fools prank.
Did you realize that one quarter of the year has just slipped past? 3 full months! How are you going on your goals for this year? Is it "Oh yeah!" or "Oh shoot!"

If it was the latter, then don't abandon all hope, the second best time to get going is now.

Let's start with your major goal for the year. What year is this?

Is it the year of getting fit, losing weight, finding that perfect partner, improving your relationship, getting to a new level in your business or career, or perhaps it's a house renovation, or an investment or educational goal. Whatever it is, just decide. Now I know you have lots of goals. Do this with your major 'theme for the year' goal first, then you can do it for all your other goals too.

The key to getting started is to take the first step.

Now where do you want to be in relation to this goal at the end of the year? Specifically. e.g. I want to weigh 75Kg. Let's say you weigh 90Kg now. You now have a start point and an end point.

Split that into 3, for each of the remaining quarters, and by the end of next quarter, the end of June, you'd need to be at 85Kg to be on track right? You see, this planning stuff is easy, just takes a little time in the beginning, its all fine tuning after that.

Now list 10 things, in general that you need to do to achieve that, eg. cut down on carbs & sugar, drink more water, take the stairs, etc.

How will you measure your progress? List the ways.

Who and what do you have access to, to assist you in achieving your goal?

How will you celebrate hitting this milestone?

Now rewrite your goal for 30th June. e.g. It is now on or before 30th June, and I weigh 85Kg. I know this is the case because I can see it on the scales, my partner tells me I'm looking good, and I feel great!

Now break the target down to one month, then one week, then list your daily actions that you are going to take to achieve your goals. Schedule in your workouts, plan your meals, etc.

At the end of each day review how you went. If you fell off the wagon, get back on again tomorrow.

Plan out each week in advance. At the end of the month, review where you are at, and plan out the next month.

If its working, keep doing it. If it's not working, do something different.

You don't become a success overnight, its small daily rituals that add up to success.

To your success,
Trevor Long

Train Your Brain For Success

Just as its easier to learn a new sport when your body is in shape, the same is true for our brains.

Whether it's learning a new skill, or starting a new business venture, it will be much easier when your brain is fit and healthy.
If your brain is in poor condition, you will have a hard time training it for success.

However, if you keep your brain running at an optimal performance rate then teaching it to start thinking like a success becomes a much easier task.

Let's look at a few areas we can focus on to improve our brain health.

Improve your physical health
The condition of your body affects the condition of your brain. Keeping your brain active is a great way to guard against mind slip but studies have shown that without regular exercise, extra stimulation doesn't have an effect on our brain health.
You are both mind and body. Both need to be used and kept in shape.
Improve your diet
The foods we eat have a huge impact on how we feel, perform, and even how well our brains perform. I highly recommend that you study the work of Dr Daniel Amen, who has studied over 80,000 living brains, for a more in depth of all things to do with brain health, especially brain diet.
Improve your sleep
Sleep helps restore the brain by flushing out toxins that build up during waking hours.
We all know sleep is important, but do we know why? Sleep is crucial for storing memories, as well as having a restorative function. Lack of sleep on the other hand can impair reasoning, interfere with your ability to problem solve, and diminish your ability to pay attention to detail.
As a frequent international flyer, I can attest that a lack of sleep has very similar effects to being drunk.
Studies even show that lack of sleep can cause your brain to shrink. Not good for training a successful brain.
How can you get a better sleep?
Well, it can be as easy as picking up an eye mask and some ear plugs.Light and noise can negatively affect your quality of sleep.
Cut out caffeine after 1pm.
Turn off your email, Facebook, phone, etc at least an hour before bedtime.
Write down all your tasks and ideas for tomorrow, that way they are not bouncing around your brain all night.
List your gratitudes as you drift off to sleep. You cannot be stressed or anxious if you are in a state of gratitude.

Take care of yourself to have the best chance of reaching your success goals.

Obviously physical and brain health is a huge topic, and a very important topic, this blog post can barely scratch the surface. I highly recommend you make physical and brain health a top goal, and
do your own research, get a coach who specialises in this area, see a chiropractor, a dietitian or naturopath, etc.

To your success,
Trevor Long

Develop and Expand Your Inner Circle

You must have heard the the rule of "Your net worth is the average of the five people you spend the most time with."

By following this principle, you can raise your level of success simply by surrounding yourself with successful people and/or millionaires.

Sounds easy enough right? But how do you go about finding millionaires, or whoever it is that you you want in your life, want to emulate, to grow to be like?

Take a moment now to check in with yourself to review your inner circle.

Do they have the income and or wealth that you desire?
Do they have the relationships that you crave?
Do they have the health and body shape that you want?
Do they have the skills you wish to acquire?
Do they have the lifestyle you aspire to?

We are continually evolving and need to continually review of who and what we bring into our lives. This doesn’t mean you have to drop all your old friends, however, it is sometimes necessary to remove negative influences that bring you down.

Don't be a S.N.I.O.P!

First, you need a target to aim for.

Make a list of 20 wealthy and/or successful people you want as a part of your inner circle. Maybe people you have not thought of yet...

Once you have your list, determine 2-3 people who inspire you and focus on making a connection with them, right away.

You must become intentional about creating new, beneficial relationships.

Reading about someone's success, and how they achieved it is extremely beneficial, but being able to pick up the phone and make a call, or send an email, or go for coffee, is way better.

One way to do this is to think of the most successful person in your community. Now think of how you can make a connection with them...

What clubs are they apart of? What events do they attend? What charities do they sponsor? These are all great opportunities to make a connection and break the ice.

When reaching out always remember to provide value. No one likes to feel like they are being used, or to be pestered by someone who wants something for nothing.

Spend some time focused on making new connections that will help you reach your success goals. This will be time well spent, and could lead to new lifelong friendships, and even partnerships.

This is not about finding a mentor or coach. We’ll cover in a future blog.

Go and meet and connected with even more people… YES! More! We can never have too large of a network, especially in this “small world.” You just never know what will come of one connection that you make at one event. (Consider this a "kick in the pants" to get crack'in on your network expansion for 2015!).

How is this relevant to your future success? Well, a successful brain is trained to constantly expand and evolve. It’s never too shy to reach out and make new connections with people of influence.

Like they say… “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”

I once attended a free seminar that was selling speaker training. I had no intention of buying the training, however the guy I was sitting next to turned into a business partner. It was certainly worth going out of my way to meet new people.

So right now in this moment, sit up taller, shine your confidence forth to the world, act from where you want to be, and the next time you go to an event, approach those people who you may have turned away from introducing yourself to in the past because you didn’t feel confident enough.

Step into your power. Step into the knowing that you are already successful.

To your success,
Trevor Long

Welcome in the new...

Australia Day is not only the anniversary of the First Fleet into Australia, it is also a day when Australia welcomes new immigrants into the country with citizenship ceremonies across the country.

By this day, most New Year Resolutions have fallen by the wayside. If not, well done!

If you keep doing the same thing, you'll get the same results.

What do you need to welcome into your life in order to achieve your goals?

If I said "Self Discipline", what area would you need to apply that to?

Your diet?
Exercise?
Finances?
Relationships?
Your house?
Your business or career?
Your studies?
Your spiritual life?

Which one resonated with you the most?

Pick something in that area, and apply some self discipline to that for the next 30 days, just one, just 30 days, and notice how things change for you.

And Celebrate! Aussie Aussie Aussie!

To your success,

Goodbye Tokyo!

After 3 long weeks in Tokyo, I'm saying Sayonara Tokyo and heading home to my loved ones and warm weather.

So I'm curious, what do you need to say sayonara and goodbye to?

Lets look at 4 areas of life...

Your Health - What do you need to say goodbye to?
Junk food? Sweets? Too much booze, or other substances? Cigarettes? Lack of exercise? Coffee? Medications? Being 'too tired'? Lack of sleep? Too much sleep?

Your Wealth - What do you need to say goodbye to?
Uncontrolled spending? Not saving? Financial ignorance? Credit card debt? Personal loans? Gambling?

Your Relationships - Who do you need to say goodbye to?
Friends that are always complaining? Family members that put you down? A boss or co-workers? Your partner? Drinking buddies? That 30 yo son or daughter that is still living with you? Or maybe there are people that you just need to spend less time with? Or people that you need to set ground rules with?

Your Lifestyle - What do you need to say goodbye to?
Dining out too often? Holidays and trips away that are too extravagant? Buying yet another pair of shoes or a handbag? Expensive nights out on the town? Taxis? A house? A car? A boat? A motor cycle? A garage full of junk?Too much TV?

Most importantly, what and who do you need to say Hello to?

Did you know your coach can assist you with all of the above and so much more? We here at Get Centred are here to help.

10 Steps to Successful Goal Setting - Part 8 - Obstacles

10 Steps to Successful Goal Setting - Part 8

What are your obstacles?

Whats likely to get in the way of achieving your goal?

Think of the obstacles.

Write them down.

Think about ways to overcome them, before they happen.

Clients often come to me for coaching with a problem, e.g.

I want to go on holiday, but I can't afford it.
I want to earn more money, but I don't have the skills.
I want to eat healthier, but I can't because I'm always tempted by sweets.

Can you see what each of them have in common?

"I want my goal, but my obstacle is in the way".

Yes, "my" obstacle, people can get very attached to them. It's funny how people can get so attached to something that doesn't really exist, except in their own imagination.

A simple way to eliminate obstacles

Include the obstacle!

How does that work, I hear you ask? OK, lets look at the 3 examples again, this time we'll include the obstacle:

I want to go on holiday that costs more than I have available.
I want to earn more money with the skills I have.
I want to eat healthier regardless of my desire for sweets.

It's a subtle change in language, but it's immensely powerful psychologically.

When you say "I can't afford it", it's a dead end. When you say "it costs more than I have available", the mind immediately asks the question "How can I have more money available?" And it will find a way.

"Earn more money with the skills I have.." Hmmmm, well I could...

"Eat healthier"... Sure I could eat healthy meals, and still have the occasional sweet. That's got to be better than eating crap all the time...

By knowing what they are in advance, it will be easier to overcome them.

Its like having the benefit of hindsight before you encounter them.

To your success,
Trevor Long

10 Steps to Successful Goal Setting - Part 7 - Timeline of Events

10 STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL GOAL SETTING - PART 7

Timeline of Events

Have a time line of events that need to take place in sequence, so you can tell if you are on track.

Work backwards, figure out the major steps to achieving your goal.

We call this 'salami slicing' your goals.

Take your big and scary goal, and break it down into smaller achievable goals.

e.g. Losing 25Kg might seem like a massive, almost impossible task, but can you lose 0.5Kg in a week? Much easier to visualise losing half a kilo a week, and in a year, there is your 25Kg gone, and you now have the body shape and size you desire.

So how will you break it down? Will it be dress sizes that you will visulise? If size 10 is your goal, then perhaps the previous goal to that, working backwards, would be a size 12. Work backwards till you get to your current weight and size.

It doesn't take a math wizard to work out steps along the way to your financial goal. You don't go from 0 to a million in one step (otherwise you would have already done it!). Maybe $500K is the next goal on the reverse timeline, then $250K, then $100K, then $50K, etc. all the way back to your first goal of $100 or $1000.

With relationships, your goal might be marriage. The previous step engagement, the step before that meeting the parents, all the way back to getting a haircut, then getting out of the door to meet people.

You get the picture.

Now get a big, bright, image of each of the steps, along the pathway to your success.

To your success,
Trevor Long

10 Steps to Successful Goal Setting - Part 5 - How Will You Know?

10 STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL GOAL SETTING - PART 5

How will you know when you've achieved your goal?

Do you have a day to day method for measuring if you are on course?
Financial Goals - This is one of the easiest to track, an amount of money in an account, a certain income, a certain passive income, gross income, net worth, number or value of shares or properties, etc.

Health Goals - Weight, dress size, body fat, heart rate, distance walked, ran, cycled or swam, number of reps, weight lifted, food and alcohol intake, medicines reduced or eliminated, etc.

Relationship Goals - This one is a little more tricky. Once you define your ideal partner, their attributes, characteristics, values, then you can say whether this one is on target or not. If its family and friends, then how will you related to them, how often, etc.

Lifestyle Goals - This is things like houses, cars, holidays, hobbies. Are you living in your ideal house, driving your dream car, taking as many holidays, pursuing your hobbies as often as you like, etc.

Define a way to measure if you are on course to achieve your goal.
Determine your signposts to success on the way, smaller goals or steps.

What will you see, hear, feel, smell and taste, when you have reached each of your intermediate goals and targets?

Celebrate when you do! How are you going to celebrate?

Phew! We are now half way through the 10 step process. More involved in goal setting than you thought?

How long to do you spend planning a 2 week holiday?

How long do you think the pilot and airline have spent planning for your international flight, or do you reckon they just 'wing it'? (Pun intended!) By the way, did you know a plane is off course 99% of the time? The autopilot makes continuous measurements and adjustments to the course to get the plane to its destination.

How long does the architect spend planning a multi-story building?

If you are hoping its a considerable amount of time, then you'd be correct.

This is your life we are talking about here, spend a bit of time sorting out a direction to head in, a plan to get there, reasons why you are going, and a way of knowing you are on track.

To your success,
Trevor Long

I Don't Know What I Want

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT

I DON'T HAVE GOALS

WHAT GOALS SHOULD I HAVE?

I read recently that all clients come to coaching with a Present State (where they are now), and a Desired State (where they want to be), and that it's the coaches job to help them bridge that gap.
In my experience as a coach, and in my personal experience, many people simply don't know where they want to be.

Some are dissatisfied with their financial status, their relationships, their career or business, or their health.

Others on the surface seem to have everything under control and are simply bored and frustrated with the same old same old.

My advice is usually the same for all clients - just PICK SOMETHING! Turn it into a goal, and start heading towards it by taking action steps.

Make sure that the something you pick is fun and/or useful.

But what if I don't know what I ultimately want?

That's fine, because the thing is, if it was right where you are now, you would have found it already!

You've got to get moving towards SOMETHING.

On the way there, you will see signposts along the way that will lead you towards other goals.

Quote - Success is a series of attainment of worthy goals.

New Years Resolutions

I'm not much into New Years Resolutions, never have been,

Firstly, you don't need to wait till the beginning of the year to DECIDE on a new course of ACTION (Tony Robbins defines DECIDE as To Cut Off From Any Other Possibility).

Secondly, a resolution is not a goal, until you know WHY you want to achieve it, and have a PLAN of ACTION towards achieving that goal.

Lets look at a few examples of common New Years Resolutions:

I want to quit smoking -

  • Why? - I will live longer, I will feel healthier, I will be fitter, I will smell better, I won't feel like a social outcast, my family and friends will be happy, I will be around longer for my kids.
  • Plan of Action - Progressively cut down number of cigarettes smoked until its zero by end of Feb, delay first cigarette of the day by 5 mins every day, drink water instead of a cigarette, practice deep breathing instead of a cigarette, take a walk at lunch time, stop hanging around with smokers at work.
I want to lose weight -
  • Why? - I will be healthier, I will be fitter, I will live longer, I will look better in my clothes and swimsuit, I will look and feel sexier, I will be more attractive to the opposite sex, people won't call me names or look at me strangely, I will be around longer for my kids.
  • Plan of Action - Decide on a goal weight or dress size, throw out all the junk food in the house, quit take away food and restaurants, especially quit fast food, plan weeks meals in advance, prepare a healthy lunch to take to work each day, drink more water, start and maintain an exercise program, get a checkup from my doctor, weigh myself daily, no more than one standard drink when drinking alcohol.
I want to get my finances under control -
  • Why? - I'm spending too much money on stuff I don't need, I can get out of debt, I can save for the house/car/holiday, I want to prepare for my retirement, I want to invest in property/shares, I want to be able to take care of my parents, I want to send my kids to private school, I want to be able to contribute to a worthy cause, I want to own my own house debt free.
  • Plan of Action - Make a list of all debts and assets, start an automatic savings plan, start to domino my debts, record every dollar spent, identify financial leaks eg. eating out, foxtel payments, drunken taxi rides, get a better deal on your mortgage and utilities, research investment options.
OK, so that's just a few of the things that clients regularly come up with during a goal setting and planning session.

Which do you think has more chance of succeeding beyond Jan 5th, the drunken New Years Resolution, or the carefully thought out goal that has reasons why and plan of action?

Congratulations if you chose the latter! You can do this at any time, however the New Year is an excellent time to set yourself up to win for the next year. You normally have some time off to reflect on your past year, your wins and your learnings, and set a course for the next 12 months.

Your coach is an ideal sounding board to assist you with this process.

To your success,
Trevor Long

There is no Law of Attraction...

There is no Law of Attraction... Without ACTION!

The big thing they left out of The Secret, and they did it so that The Secret would sell better, is that you need to take ACTION towards your goals, otherwise you are just wishing, wanting and hoping.

One of my mentors, Sharon Pearson, calls wishing, wanting and hoping "The three old men of failure".

Who would buy a self help book, or watch a movie, if it entailed, OMG, taking ACTION?!

Imagine for a moment, that your deepest desire was to become a renowned heart surgeon. You dreamed of it all day long, you meditated on it, you put it on your vision board and you said your affirmations twice daily. Is that going to allow you to be a heart surgeon? I think not. You might have to do some study first, get into medical school, spend many years training and practicing before they even let you near a heart with a scalpel. You would need to take some pretty definite, targeted ACTION.

Whether its health, wealth, relationships, career, business, etc. you are going to have to start doing actions to achieve greatly.

Sure, all the visualising, meditating, vision boarding and affirming is important, as long as you are taking actions towards your clearly defined goals.

If all you want to achieve is get a phone call from a distant friend, or manifest an empty parking spot, then sure, not much action required there, but for anything else... you guessed it... take ACTION!

I think Jim Carrey said it best....

To your success,
Trevor Long

Your Body Is Acidic

Your Body is Acidic. Here is what you Need to Do.

pharticle1245657

The body maintains a delicate acid-alkaline balance. Everything from healthy cells to cancer cells to soil quality and ocean life is affected by pH.

The term pH stands for “potential hydrogen” which is the measure of hydrogen ions in a particular solution. In the case of our bodies, that solution refers to our body’s fluids and tissues.

The pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is and ranges from 0 to 14. Seven is neutral. Below 7 becomes increasingly acidic, above 7 increasingly alkaline.

Proper pH varies throughout your body for many reasons. For example, your bowels, skin and vagina should be slightly acidic–this helps keep unfriendly bacteria away.

Saliva is more alkaline. While your urine is normally more acidic, especially in the morning.

In addition, your body regularly deals with naturally occurring acids that are the by-products of respiration, metabolism, cellular breakdown, and exercise.

By far the most important measurement is your blood. For optimal cellular health, your blood pH must be slightly alkaline with a pH between 7.365 and 7.4. A basic understanding of how our bodies maintain an alkaline blood range is important for good health. Your body doesn’t just find the balance it works extremely hard to create it.

Most people are bathing their cells in an inflammatory acid bath multiple times per day with tons of sugar, processed foods, and factory farmed animal products.

One of the biggest casualties of that type of diet is the toll it takes on the body, especially the digestive system, liver, and kidneys. Inflammation, allergies, arthritis, skin problems, constipation, bowel issues, stress (physical & mental) and chronic disease like cancer absolutely love this diet.

Excess acidity also sets the stage for bad bacteria (like yeast and fungus) and even viruses that wreak havoc on our health.

Therefore, maintaining pH balance  is one of the important tools to optimizing your health.

Home Remedy To Correct Your PH Balance

Ingredients
⅔ tsp. baking soda
4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice or organic apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Mix everything together. The acid/base combination will immediately begin to fizz.
Continue adding baking soda until the fizz stops and then fill the glass with 8 oz. of filtered water.
Drink this all in one sitting.
Notes
This remedy will help neutralizes the pH and create an alkaline-forming environment in your body.

Heart surgeon declares on what really causes heart illness

Heart surgeon declares on what really causes heart illness

We physicians with all our experience, know how and authority often acquire a rather large selfishness that tends to make it hard to accept we are wrong. So, here it is. I openly admit to being mistaken. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having done more than 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific proof.
I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled “opinion makers.” Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.
The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.
It Is Not Working!
These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.
The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.
Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.
Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.
Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.
Inflammation is not complicated — it is quite simply your body’s natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.
What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body? Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.
The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.
Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.
What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.
Take a moment to visualize rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding. you kept this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you could tolerate this painful brushing, you would have a bleeding, swollen infected area that became worse with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualize the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.
Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, every day, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.
While we savor the tantalizing taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed with omega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. These foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.
How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?
Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.
When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.
What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.
While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator — inflammation in their arteries.
Let’s get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6′s are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell — they must be in the correct balance with omega-3′s.
If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.
Today’s mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favor of omega-6. That’s a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today’s food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.
To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and finally, Alzheimer’s disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.
There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.
There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is returning to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colorful fruits and vegetables. Cut down on or eliminate inflammation- causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them.
One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280 mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940 mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.
Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled polyunsaturated. Forget the “science” that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.
The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.
What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed food, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from consuming the typical American diet.

If you don't recognise the ingredients, neither does your body.

If you don't recognise the ingredients, neither does your body.

You'll be a lot healthier if you ate like your grandparents used to eat, you know, before supermarkets were open 24/7 and had 18 aisles of processed crap. There used to be a greengrocer, a butcher, a baker, a fishmonger, a dairy, and grocery store.

There wasn't a frozen lasagna, cheesecake or pie to be seen, nor was there any sugar laden breakfast cereals, or aspartame loaded energy drinks.

These days, if you venture into a supermarket, stick to the edges, that's where all the 'fresh' stuff is, stay clear of the center ailses.

If you ate like a cave man, you'll be even healthier still. (Paleo diet).

Don't expect to have a healthy mind, relationship or lifestyle, if you don't have a healthy body.

Fasting

Fasting

We tend to see food as indispensable, and think without three meals a day we will die. This is far from the truth. It is a program we have picked up on the way. - Paul Blackburn

Some of the benefits of fasting:

  • It's how our bodies are designed, to have periods of feast and famine, to eat irregularly as food was found, harvested or caught. We were never designed to have food available to us 24/7 for a lifetime.
  • You'll have more energy available, because its not being used for digestion.
  • Fasting has been used throughout history to heal, to cleanse, to purify the soul. Animals instinctively fast when unwell.
  • It can increase energy, awareness and intuition.
  • Fasting increases the bodies ability to eliminate toxins.
  • You will lose weight (fat).
  • When fasting, you can sense the body craving essential nutrients, which otherwise would be dulled by a full belly and colon.
Michael Mosley, in his book The Fast Diet, explains that when you sleep, after about 4 hours insulin production stops, and the body goes into repair and recovery mode, until the morning, when you break-fast.

There are many ways to diet, you can research it on the internet, or read the many books on the subject.

Michael Mosley advocates a very easy to follow 'fast'. Twice a week, on non consecutive days, eat only a quarter of your calories for that day. 600 calories for a man, 500 calories for a woman.

Wait as long as you can before you break-fast, then as long as you can again before your next meal. Drink as much water, black/herbal tea or black coffee as you like, to stave off cravings and keep hydrated.

After fasting for a few times, you'll be surprised how easy this becomes, and at the lack of cravings.

You might also be surprised by your energy levels, and your bowels that start working normally again after you have given them a rest.

This diet is easy, its simple, you don't have to buy special foods, attend meetings, get all sweaty. None of that. Just live your normal life, eating less on 2 days per week, knowing that you can eat what you want the next day.

You'll not only lose weight, get healthy, have more energy and live longer, you'll save money in the process.

You might even find that your cravings for crap processed foods (that are high in fat, sugar and carbs) are greatly reduced.

If you have any difficulty with this, a good coach or hypnotherapist can help you find the motivation, and provide craving busters to help you to your health goals easily and effortlessly.

NLP Presuppositions – 11. The mind and body are inseparable

Neuro-Linguistic Programming Presuppositions –

11. The mind and body are inseparable

It was previously believed the mind and body are separate entities. Today, researchers, medical experts, and philosophers discover evidence each day about the mind and body influencing one another. Your thoughts and emotions affect your body and vice versa.
It’s clear how the mind-and-body affect each other: Prolonged stress or heavy emotional spells often result in physical sickness. Likewise, positive attitudes, joy and laughter are not only healing for the body, but also help prevent sickness.
Mind and body interact and mutually influence each other. It is not possible to make a change in one without the other being affected. When we think differently, our bodies change. When we act differently we change our thoughts and feelings.
Psychology creates Physiology and vice versa. Prove it to yourself. Sit slumped in your chair and try and think happy thoughts. You can't do it. Stand in a 'wiiners' posture, try and think depressing thoughts. You can't do it.
One more presupposition to follow in this series. Stay tuned.
